2010 SFTI Wrap Up
Changing the way we think about prevention
The 2010 Strengthening Families Training Institute held March 16 and 17 was a huge success. We learned about best practices in child abuse prevention from national and statewide experts. We learned from each other in both structured and unstructured networking. We found out that we have a lot in common no matter where we are working. We learned ways that we can pull together as communities making everyone a partner in prevention. For those of you who couldn't attend or for those of you who want to be reminded, we are attaching Power Point presentations and notes from 3 of our out of state presenters: Jim Hmurovich from Prevent Child Abuse America, Pat Stanislaski
with Partners for Prevention and Lauren
Morley with the Front Porch Project. You can
also see the results of our community cafe
session to get an idea of where the
prevention community in Idaho hopes to go.

Do early childhood education programs reduce rates of child abuse and neglect? Research from the Center for the Study of Social Policy concludes they can. Host Joan Cartan-Hansen talks with Judy Langford, a Senior Fellow with the Center who heads the "Strengthening Families" movement. Langford contends that small but significant changes in early childhood education programs can have a profound impact on preventing child abuse and neglect. She explains how a small investment toward these changes can enable programs to effectively and quickly help families in crisis and protect children.
